On April 27th, the moment had finally arrived: the KIT Graduate School ENZo invited everyone to its Career Talk, and we gathered at the Triangel right on Karlsruhe's Kronenplatz. Right from the moment we walked in, it was clear this wasn't going to be a stiff informational evening—the atmosphere at the venue was relaxed, and the anticipation among the many guests, ranging from curious students to experienced speakers, was palpable.

Punctually at 5 p.m., Heike Kull and Prof. Jörg Sauer took the floor. The two of them not only lead ENZo with a lot of passion but also moderated the evening with a healthy dose of humor, which broke the ice immediately. After a brief introduction, things got exciting as the guests were invited onto the stage. First, two women shared their personal journeys—from their first steps after university to their current positions. It was great to hear that careers are rarely a straight line, and the advice they shared with us was genuinely down-to-earth and helpful. After that, two personable experts from Siemens Energy talked about their daily work life and showed us everything that is currently happening in the world of energy.

The plenary session concluded with a brief Q&A round: all the speakers gathered on a large sofa, giving the whole setup the cozy feel of a living room chat. Everyone had a final take-home message or personal piece of motivation for the audience, such as: "A doctorate also trains your own thinking and problem-solving strategies, not just your specialist knowledge," or "Careers are paths you have to walk—be flexible." As a small thank you, the speakers were presented with the game "What’s Next" at the end, which was actually developed by doctoral student teams within the "ENZo Real World Projects"—a truly fitting gift for an evening where everything revolved around the future.

This first part then transitioned seamlessly into an intensive exchange with the presenters, who each had their own small booths. You could simply walk up and sort out your specific questions in a relaxed, one-on-one conversation—making everything feel incredibly approachable. This personal exchange was exactly the goal of the evening, and by the time the event wrapped up around 8 p.m., many of us left not only with new information in mind but also having made some great new connections. It was an all-around successful evening.
