Everyone, no matter the age, social class, gender or education holds unconscious beliefs that primarily serve as a filter and categorization to the magnitude of information we receive every moment. Consequently, we use mental shortcuts to complete missing information about others automatically. Within the university context, unconscious bias can influence our decision-making concerning appointment procedures, performance evaluation or personnel development.
The workshop aims to sensitize the participants about cognitive distortions concerning how we perceive other persons and which effects these unconscious biases can have on our actions. Furthermore, the workshop will encourage the participants to recognize and question their own and others´ biases as well as it will help them to identify possible ways to overcome unconscious bias and improve their daily interactions.
